Johnathan Wu, currently an undergraduate student at the Cleveland Institute of Music, is pursuing his Bachelor’s degree as a student of world-renowned musicians Jaime Laredo. He began his violin studies at the age of three with Paul Landefeld and continued on with Jan Mark Sloman for twelve years after.

 

Johnathan has competed at and won top prizes in countless competitions. In recent years, he was a prize winner of the Lynn Harrell Concerto Competition, the Dallas Symphonic Festival, and the Fort Worth Symphony’s Young Artist Competition. In 2016, he was titled as the Grand Prize Winner of the Lewisville Lake Symphony Vernell Gregg Young Artist Competition and performed Dvořák’s Violin Concerto with the Lewisville Lake Symphony. He has also won awards in the Walgreen’s National Concerto Competition, the Houston Civic Young Artist Competition, the Collin County Young Artist Competition, and the Juanita Miller Concerto Competition. In 2018 he was the grand prize winner of the ENKOR International Music Competition. He also auditioned for the title of “Young Master” from the Texas Young Master Program in 2016, which is sponsored by the Texas Cultural Trust and the Texas Commission on the Arts, and was awarded as a merit winner for the National YoungArts Foundation in 2017 and 2018.

 

To further his studies outside of school, he attended numerous festivals such as the New York String Orchestra Seminar during their 50th anniversary, The Joseph Gingold Chamber Music Festival of Miami, Encore Chamber Music String Quartet Intensive, The Heifetz International Music Institute, and the Meadowmount School of Music. At these festivals, he had the opportunity to work with and learn from artists such as: Andrés Cárdenes, Gary Levinson, the Cavani String Quartet, members of the Borromeo String Quartet, Jinjoo Cho, Kikuei Ikeda, Brian Lewis, Jan Mark Sloman, and Jaime Laredo.
